The European SINTETIC project brought its innovative timber traceability technologies to the field in Romania

The first event, organised in Azuga by the Association of Foresters of Romania (ASFOR), showcased the work of a harvester equipped with sensors was used to measure and assess timber, the automatical tagging with RFID tags, LiDAR scanning and real-time data transmission to a central geospatial database. These technologies are designed to complement Romania’s SUMAL 2.0 system and support compliance with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

The demonstration was followed on 10 September by a presentation organised by the Transilvania University of Brașov of the SINTETIC project during Forester’s Day at Cheile Grădiștei. During the day, the Tree Scanner application was showcased. This app is a digital solution for measuring and scanning trees using mobile-device technology.

The event highlighted SINTETIC’s ambition to connect advanced digital technologies with practical forestry operations, strengthening transparency and traceability throughout the timber value chain.
