A field event taking place on 4 December 2025 at Finca Vilamorena (Moianès) will offer participants the opportunity to explore how new smartphone-based technologies are revolutionising forest measurement, wood quality assessment, and traceability in stands of Scots pine and black pine.
Innovative Tools: ARBOREAL’s Tree Scanner
A highlight of the event will be the presentation of Tree Scanner, a state-of-the-art mobile application developed by Swedish company ARBOREAL.
By leveraging sensors integrated into modern smartphones — including LiDAR technology and high-resolution cameras — Tree Scanner achieves remarkable improvements in measurement precision, accuracy, and bias reduction.
These capabilities make the tool an efficient digital companion for professionals working in forest inventory, wood procurement, and quality assessment.
Who Should Attend?
This event will be of particular interest to experts and practitioners in:
- Forestry and forest inventory
- Wood processing and sawmilling
- Digitalisation and data management
- Supply-chain innovation and traceability
- Sustainable forest management
Participants will have the opportunity to see these technologies demonstrated directly in the field and to exchange insights with project partners and technology providers.
SINTETIC: A New Era for Wood Traceability
The SINTETIC Project aims to design, develop, and demonstrate an innovative ICT-based traceability system covering the entire life cycle of wood — from standing trees to final sawn products.
At the core of this system is the generation of a unique digital identifier (ID) for each log, produced through specialised hardware and software solutions. This identifier is then physically linked to the material through electronic tags, while all associated data is automatically uploaded to a secure geospatial database.
This centralised system ensures full traceability along every stage of the supply chain, from forest inventory and harvesting to processing and distribution. The result is a reliable, precise, and cost-effective method to guarantee transparency and optimisation in wood production.
